The company have met with GMB this week in a last ditch attempt to avert a ballot for industrial action and reach a consensus in regard to 7 day deliveries and the frequency of weekend working for DC members.
GMB again acknowledged Wilko’s need/desire to deliver to stores across 7 days however GMB also reaffirmed that the implementation has to recognise that hard working team members still need a healthy work/life balance, consecutive days recuperation for health, safety and wellbeing reasons and some weekends to spend with their families.
We are able to inform you that there has been significant movement. GMB has secured a written commitment from the company to continue recruitment for Wilko/Agency weekend team members until 1 in 3 weekends (1 in 2 at peak – October to January if necessary) is achieved and maintained for all shifts, contracts and levels 1 to 4 (apart from any rolling pattern TMs). The company have also agreed to GMB’s request to accelerate this process by contacting local colleges, universities and jobcentres for further potential recruitment. Some further elements are still to be discussed/agreed. To be absolutely clear, a weekend is:
Saturday and Sunday – Days
Friday & Saturday – Nights
GMB have been clear that it is necessary for the company to demonstrate to members that this commitment is progressing so some immediate, visible improvement would be required. A conference call has been arranged for tomorrow to iron out some finer details and confirmation on the full company proposal will be provided shortly.
Any final proposal shall be put to the members accordingly.
