Fantastic weekend at the TUC Yorkshire & Humber AGM 2019. Many of our young members went along to attend the Young Workers Weekend 2019, which was running parallel to the main conference. Here we had conversations around union democracy, access and how to build our young activists' movement. There were also workshops on our upcoming "Summer Patrol" pilot scheme, Digital Campaigning and our "Trade Unions in Schools" project. There were also fantastic contributions from our own young members: Joe Wheatley and Gina Harding in the main conference hall. Joe Wheatley, spoke about the structure, funding, membership access and support that young members need to build our youth movements. Gina Harding, gave a fantastic talk about the future of retail, with a specific focus around the job loses of the Asda - Sainsbury’s merger. Overall a fantastic weekend with lots of young member engagement. #GMBYoungMembers#GMBYorkshire#TUCYorkshire2019

Great time at GMB Yorkshire & North Derbyshire's Branch Weekend. GMB Young members featured prominently on the agenda this weekend with young members, Caty Murray, Jawad Khan, Summer Risebury and Dave Aldwinkle giving a presentation on the lessons learned from their recent visit to New York. They talked about how American trade unions are developing innovative new ways to organise, despite harsh anti-union laws, and they talked about the different methods of community campaigning that the unions are using to gain public support. Overall it was a great weekend with fantastic discussions and stories about the strides GMB branches and GMB Young Members are making to raise trade union awareness and improve workplace conditions across the region.
