Very productive young member meeting yesterday. Lots of activities planned for the upcoming months. Once again another big welcome to Jake O'Malley, our Regional Youth Officer, to his first Yorkshire Young Member Meeting. #GMB#GMBYoungMembers
As part of our ongoing Regional GMB Young Members School's Campaign Joe Wheatley and Gareth Lewis (TUC) spoke to sixth form students at Carlton Bolling College today. The aim of the campaign is to inform and engage young students about the importance of joining a trade union when they enter the world of work. There was a lot of engagement from students especially regarding their rights at work at today's session. A large group came up at the end to grab TUC leaflets, GMB Young Members leaflets and many signed our "Wages Not Based On Ages" petition. #JoinAUnion#EducateAgitateOrganise#GMBYoungMembers#TUCYorkshire#TUC150

The TUC have organised a "Print your own Placard" event tomorrow at the Art House in Wakefield from 11:00am - 3:00pm This will be a great, family friendly event where kids, parents, and anyone else can get stuck in choosing colours, phrases and pictures to customise your very own placard or poster to take away with you. And don't forget to bring it with you to the Banner March at Wakefield Cathedral the next day at 10am.
Statement from our General Secretary Tim Roache about the merger speculation between Asda/Sainsbury’s: “Our first priority is to safeguard the job of every single ASDA member, both in stores and in distribution. We are demanding an urgent meeting with ASDA to get the answers and assurances our members need and deserve. “GMB will be making sure the voices of supermarket workers are not lost amidst all the talk of mergers and acquisitions. We should never forget these companies’ empires are built upon the hard work of their employees. "Rest assured we will be exploring every available legal avenue to protect our members’ jobs." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/business-43933517#click=https://t.co/glSEdJFLaW
